Hello World
I will do a short intro. I am a 30 something Gen Xer with too much time on my hands. I am married and live in urban area of the world. I have tons of ideas and some minor experience in several areas. I was far from sheltered as a child, and enjoy the ability to talk to anyone about almost anything. So let’s go.
Politics is where I will start. In this country (United States) we have major voter apathy. This is leading others in the world to think that we are either too greedy or zealous about our beliefs (religious or economic). I bet most people who live in the U.S. don’t vote due to lack of interest. Well if we keep this up we will be led by those who can get the extreme left or right stirred up. Most adults are not extreme on any issue but it is the polarizing issues that we focus on. Now this is not the MEDIA but what we allow to happen. I bet if I was to speak on the behalf of an extreme issue such as, all left handed children should be killed at birth, I would get all kinds of attention from the public. I bet that if I were able to find facts on how this would save the county money that I could even get support from several right handed nut jobs. This would attract the attention of reporters and I would have News trucks parked outside my home until two days after the election was held. But if I were to offer an opinion about how to finance the local school district with better money management, all I would get are yawns, and people would run to go home to see the news about the nut who wants euthanize the left-handed.
I am not saying you have to spend an hour a day on local politics but you need to know what is going on in your own back yard and then worry about the rest of the country. Who you elect as your local county commissioner has more effect on your life than the President. I think a lot of people want to be “one issue voters” because that is easy. What is hard is when someone you like disagrees with you. There are also people who want to be led and told how to vote. Do not be lemmings, question where your local politicians get the majority of their campaign money and then watch how they vote. Don’t wait till someone gets caught doing something wrong to get involved. Because by that time you have already lost and the next person will just try harder to not get caught.
